2013 WI-FI Challenge Series

Round 1: The Wi-Fi Challenge

Industry Issues. Vendor Differentiators.

Mobility has become de rigueur, both inside the office and out. Corporate-led mobility and bring-your-own-device (BYOD) movements have resulted in users carrying multiple devices, any of which might need corporate access from anywhere at any time. And mobile apps are growing increasingly sophisticated, often embedding real-time features such as voice over IP (VoIP) and video in them to enable collaboration among far-flung workers. In short, the airwaves are getting crowded and require increasingly sophisticated tools keep them highly reliable, secure, and able to meet the performance requirements of real-time traffic.

Enterprise Wi-Fi networks have become the default access network inside buildings. The makers of those network infrastructures have been working hard to keep their solutions up to the task of handling new challenges of high-density RF and network management, security, and performance management. So what do the leading vendors provide and how do their solutions differ?

Vendors have enhanced their features and services significantly during the last year. We have brought together six leading suppliers of Wi-Fi solutions and let them explain how their solutions make it possible to succeed at meeting the demands of mobile devices and apps. Specifically, Aruba Networks, Cisco, Hewlett-Packard, Juniper, Motorola Solutions and Xirrus have come together at this year’s Challenge site to explain how their solutions solve today's Wi-Fi challenges and where they excel, all in a handy guide that you can download.

How to Consistently Extend Policies to Your Wireless Network: Part 1

These two Webcasts explore how to implement and manage policies uniformly across both the wired and mobile side of your network. They also review tools you will need, policies that are unique to mobile users and the role of software-defined networking (SDN) in managing Wi-Fi. Tim McCarthy of Juniper Network joins Joanie Wexler in the first discussion. In the second discussion, Rob Haviland from HP and Robin Layland explore the subject.
